Our Services
There can be many reasons for having to file a Self Assessment tax return. With an ever increasing number of people working as self-employed, company directors, or having property income to declare, the number of people in the Self Assessment system now regularly exceeds 10 million.
The most common requirement is for those who are self-employed as Sole Traders. We can help prepare your end of year accounts too, which is useful if you're applying for a mortgage or need an accountant's certificate.
HMRC no longer requires directors to file a Self Assessment return simply because they are directors. A return is needed where you have untaxed income, such as dividends above the Dividend Allowance, rental income or other untaxed sources. We can check whether you need to file and plan ahead for any tax due by 31 January.
With an increasing number of people owning buy-to-let properties, it's important to ensure you are claiming all the correct allowances and paying the right amount of tax, especially when it comes to Capital Gains Tax when selling parts of your portfolio.
The Higher Income Child Benefit charge can be a surprise if you have not planned ahead of time. We can help you work out if this applies to you and if there are any sensible strategies you can employ.
The Dividend Allowance remains at just £500 for the 2026/27 tax year. The Personal Savings Allowance lets basic rate taxpayers receive £1,000 of interest tax free, higher rate taxpayers £500 and additional rate taxpayers nil. Interest above the allowance is taxable, and the tax is often collected through your tax code or through Self Assessment.
Selling shares, a second home or an investment property can create a Capital Gains Tax liability. UK residential property disposals with tax to pay need a separate return and payment within 60 days of completion. We calculate the gain, claim the reliefs available and report it correctly.
The construction industry has its own specific set of rules requiring tax to be deducted from your income (the Construction Industry Scheme), and no provision is made for your annual personal tax-free allowance.
Our experience shows sub-contractors are often owed thousands of pounds of tax; but reclaiming it can only happen at the end of every tax year. Contact us as soon as possible for a free consultation.
If HMRC have asked you to file a Self Assessment and you're unsure why, don't delay or ignore it. Failure to respond will lead to automatic fines, and the more time we have to help the easier it will be to understand and manage the situation.
